Meet the Hawks Brings Energy to Dorothy Garrett Coliseum

The Dorothy Garrett Coliseum was full of Hawk spirit Monday night as Howard College welcomed students, families and community members for its annual Meet the Hawks celebration.

The evening gave fans their first chance to meet the 2026–2027 Howard College men’s and women’s basketball teams, athletic trainers, and the new Hawk Hype Squad but the action went well beyond introductions.

Hawk athletes from across multiple sports stepped onto the court for a three-point contest, bringing some friendly competition to the night, while young fans got their own chance to show off their basketball skills during a knockout game. Players from the men’s basketball team, and one brave baseball player, also engaged in a dunk contest — complete with a judges panel and score cards.

For the youngest Hawk fans, the night came with an extra souvenir. Each kid received a free Howard College T-shirt and had the opportunity to collect autographs from Hawk players throughout the evening.

Between the competition, introductions and plenty of interaction with the crowd, Meet the Hawks offered the community a fun first look at the athletes who will represent Howard College this year.

“It was another great Meet the Hawks! Thanks to everyone in the community for coming out and supporting our athletes. We are very excited to get this year started,” said Athletic Director and Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Kyle Cooper.

This year’s event also came during a special week for Howard College as the college continues its 80th anniversary celebration. Meet the Hawks was one of several events bringing current students, alumni and the community together to celebrate eight decades of Howard College.

With a new basketball season on the horizon, Monday night was a chance to meet the teams, cheer on the Hawks, and get excited for what’s ahead.

Fans can also look forward to seeing the new Hawk Hype Squad throughout the year as they help bring school spirit, energy and excitement to Howard College games and events.

The Hawks are ready — and Hawk Nation is, too.
