Coach Roderica Johnson enters her third season at SWCID as the Athletic Director and Head Women’s Volleyball and Basketball Coach, and is working to help make both teams a success. This is Coach Johnson’s first official Coaching Job straight out of college. Coach Johnson graduated in May 2014 from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Education with a minor in Exercise Sport Studies.

She has served as an Assistant Coach for an AAU team in Fort Worth, Texas by the name of Ruff Ryders during the summer of 2013. During her student teaching at Eastview High School in Georgetown, Texas in 2013-2014 she also helped to student coach the freshman/junior varsity volleyball girls and the freshman/junior varsity/varsity basketball girls. She also helped out with basketball camps at Southwestern University in her years of attendance.

She is a native of Fort Worth and a product of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School where she played as a forward for the basketball team under Coach Ebony Shaw and a middle blocker for the volleyball team under Coach Stephanie Smith. Coach Johnson was also a 3 year player for the Southwestern Women’s Basketball Team under Coach Kerri Brinkoeter. Her senior year she was the Student Coach for the Southwestern Pirates while also juggling student teaching and 2 jobs as proctor of the recreational facility and an Intramural Supervisor at Southwestern University.

Coach Johnson enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys traveling in her spare time, listening to music, and playing sports. She is the daughter of Roderick and Teresa Johnson and has 3 siblings.

Coach Justin Grigsby is entering his first season at SWCID as the Head Men Basketball Coach, and is working to help expand the athletics program. This is Coach Grigsby’s fifth year as coaching and first year coaching experience at college. He graduated in May 2009 from Gallaudet University in Washington, DC with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Physical Education and Recreation.

Grigsby, who is deaf, played for the Bison men's basketball program where he excelled as a role player for three seasons as a guard and was a one-time captain at Gallaudet University. He also played football for one year as a defensive back. After college, he has served as the assistant coach and head coach at deaf schools for basketball and football, as well as teaching Physical Education classes. He also helped out with deaf basketball camps, mostly in Arizona and other states in his years of attendance.

The Arizona native started playing basketball and fell in love with the game at a young age while attending public schools. He played basketball at Deer Valley High School in Glendale, AZ where he was the only deaf player on team for two years. He then transferred to Phoenix Day School for the Deaf to play basketball under the legendary David Hamilton, who is also deaf. At PDSD, Grigsby discovered his comfort with the access of communication as he was selected as the Deaf All American in the nation during his senior year and earned multiples honor selections. He is currently involved with traveling deaf basketball clubs, mainly with Arizona Desert Fire.

Coach Grigsby enjoys spending time with his family and friends. On top of that, he also enjoys hitting the weights in the gym. Grigsby is an avid fan of the Phoenix Suns and Dallas Cowboys. He is the son of Frank and Lisa Grigsby and has 2 siblings, Brandon and Mariah who are also deaf.
