HC Alert System

  • Hits: 6691

HC AlertHoward College / SWCID has partnered with Rave Mobile Safety to provide an emergency alert system capable of delivering messages via HC Alert for faculty, staff, and students. It will send the message to your Howard College email address, as well as your cell phone and other email address that you may provide.   We have pre-enrolled you in the program at no additional expense to you using your Howard College email and cell phone number if it was on file.  We encourage you to login to the HC Alert site to confirm your contact information and choose your notification preferences.  (Note that your cellular phone provider may charge a per-text message fee for the delivery of emergency notifications to your phone).   While logged in, you are also given the option to remove your contact information if you do not wish to receive any emergency alerts from Howard College.

To manage your account, please visit HC Alert.   These instructions will help you complete the verification process.

If you have any concerns regarding the legitimacy of this email or have questions regarding sign in or out, please contact Howard College IT department at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

HC Alert is a safety tool used to promote timely notification of critical information to students, faculty and staff. As HC Alert is activated, Howard College sends an alert message using this system to your cell phone carrier. Your cell phone carrier then provides the mechanism to get the message to you. Once the message is sent we no longer have any control over how long it takes the message to reach you. Delivery times can range depending upon your cell phone service carrier and/or your email system.  By choosing to remain in the HC Alert system  you are acknowledging that you understand this disclaimer and choose to proceed with enrollment in the HC Alert system, and you waive and release any right and claims against Howard College, it's sponsors, organizers, supervisors, and employees for damages and/or injuries which may be sustained while participating in the program.

Ebola VirusEbola virus disease (formerly known as Ebola haemorrhagic fever) is a severe, often fatal illness, with a death rate of up to 90%. The illness affects humans and nonhuman primates (monkeys, gorillas, and chimpanzees). Ebola first appeared in 1976 in two simultaneous outbreaks, one in a village near the Ebola River in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the other in a remote area of Sudan. The origin of the virus is unknown but fruit bats (Pteropodidae) are considered the likely host of the Ebola virus, based on available evidence.

Bacterial Meningitis

Bacterial Meningitis

MeningitisMeningitis is a disease caused by the inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord known as the meninges. The inflammation is usually caused by an infection of the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Meningitis may develop in response to a number of causes, usually bacteria or viruses, but meningitis can also be caused by physical injury, cancer or certain drugs. The severity of illness and the treatment for meningitis differ depending on the cause. Thus, it is important to know the specific cause of meningitis.

Bacterial Meningitis Vaccine: The 82nd Texas Legislature approved Senate Bill 1107, which requires all students entering a public, private, or independent institution of higher education in Texas as of January 2012 and thereafter to provide documentation that they have had a meningococcal (bacterial meningitis) vaccine or “booster” dose- within the last five years and at least 10 days prior to the first day of class.
