Student Activities

During the school year, students have many opportunities to attend or participate in various special events. SGA (Student Government Association) plans most of the programs and activities on campus. SGA collaborates with the Student Services, Intramural and Instructional departments to host cultural, social, recreational, and educational activities while providing an environment in which students may get involved and develop their leadership skills.

Examples of social events include campus wide dances, bowling night, and movie nights. Howard College and SWCID also have many traditional annual events. Traditional events on the Big Spring campus include welcome back week including an ice cream social for students and parents, out-door movies, and special residence hall programs; Western Week includes a barbeque, entertainment by a local fiddler and culminates with the annual Howard College Rodeo; the Luminaria displays more than 500 luminaria bags, Santa Claus, holiday cookies, and wonderful holiday music provided by Howard College students; the sports banquet recognizes the achievements of all the athletic teams; and Thanksgiving Feast and Christmas Dinner.
