Skills Development Fund

The Skills Development Fund of the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is designed to help Texas public community and technical colleges and a higher education extension agency finance customized job training for their local businesses. The Fund will provide training for specific skills for workers who will be hired by the businesses. The 75th Texas Legislature appropriated $25 million to be used during the FY 98-99 biennium. During 1998, TWC awarded 55 grants totaling over $13 million. Texas now has more than 15,000 workers in training that will obtain jobs in their communities. Skills Development Fund grants serve as a strong investment in Texas businesses, colleges and workers.

Eligibility

Businesses and labor unions that form partnerships with local community colleges and technical schools or the higher education extension agency may apply. They should have a training plan and jobs that pay the occupational wage. A Skills Development Fund proposal submission is required and will assist the Executive Director of the TWC in determining grant funding.
