Vocational Nursing

Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) provide direct personal care for patients under the direction of physicians and registered nurses. They administer medications, perform therapeutic and diagnostic procedures and procedures requiring the use of medical or surgical aseptic techniques. Employment of LVNs is expected to continually grow in response to the long-term care needs of an increasing elderly population and the general growth of the healthcare services. LVNs work in a variety of settings including hospitals, long-term care facilities, home healthcare services, and outpatient care centers.

Vocational Nursing Program

The HCSA Vocational Nursing Program is a 12-month Certificate Program that offers college credit, beginning in the fall of each year. The program is approved by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Upon successful completion of the program, students may make application to take the State Board Examination to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse.

Successful completion of a criminal background check is required for enrollment in all Health Professions programs.
