A key component of providing a high-quality education to HC students is the readiness of faculty. Although Howard College faculty members are highly qualified, ongoing professional development is essential in sustaining professionalism and excellence. For this reason, a portion of grant funding is directed toward the development of and/or support for STEM-specific professional development activities that will enable instructors to stay current on the latest technology and pedagogy so that they will provide the instruction that will assist students in entering STEM fields.
The expectation is that all instructors of STEM courses will participate in a minimum of two professional development activities during each academic year. This may include attendance and/or presentation at STEM-related conferences, workshops, seminars, webinars, and online or ITV courses. The professional development must relate to increasing knowledge and/or skills in STEM or in general pedagogy that contributes to excellence in STEM teaching.
