Certificate Level I Farm and Ranch Management

Farming may be the oldest human occupation, with archaeologists still discovering ancient seeds grown thousands of years ago. But whether you want to raise Angus steers in Montana or grow organic heirloom tomatoes in Pennsylvania, it helps to know the latest about what makes a business successful.

With a farm and ranch management certificate, you’ll have the inside track. Your studies will cover everything from accounting and loan management to the many government regulations and programs relating to agriculture.

Farm and ranch management majors learn how to manage farms, ranches, and other agricultural businesses by taking courses in economics, business administration, and agriculture.  In an introduction to farm and ranch management, you’ll learn what it takes to turn a profit. You’ll learn the concepts behind sound business decisions as well basic tools you’ll use again and again. For example, you’ll learn how to keep the books of your business and prepare the accounting statements you’ll need to apply for loans. You’ll also learn about budgeting, taxes, and the unique business issues associated with land and machinery. You’ll practice using what you learn to solve management problems.
