These examples of Jayhawk and Hawk cartoon characters come from many different sources, including annuals and brochures. If anyone knows of, or has an example of a Jayhawk or Hawk which isn't included here, please either scan it (150 dpi) and email it to me or bring it to the Computer Center at Howard College to Tony Claxton to be scanned. I will also need to know the year it was produced, and what publication it was from. This will help with placing it in the time line and describing it.

This Jayhawk is from the 1947 annual. It was drawn by Mille Balch.

This Jayhawk was on a t-shirt in the 1948 annual.

		These Jayhawks were in the 1948 annual. They were drawn by Bob Dickerson.

This Jayhawk was in the 1949 annual and was drawn by J. C. (Jake) Mittel.


	These five Jayhawks were in the 1950 annual. They were drawn by J.C. (Jake) Mittel.


	These silhouetted Jayhawks were in the 1952 annual. They were drawn by Peggy Tubb.

		This Jayhawk, with the world under its foot (claw), came from the cover of the 1954 annual.
		This Jayhawk came from the sports section of the 1954 annual.

This Jayhawk was in the 1955 annual. It wasn't signed, but Nell Glover was listed as the Jayhawker artist.

This Jayhawk was in the 1956 annual, in the student section. It wasn't signed, although Alice Ann Martin was listed as the Jayhawker artist.

This Jayhawk was on a picture of a drum in the 1957 annual.


	The Jayhawk took a turn for the angular in the 1958 annual. Danne Green, I believe, did the angular Jayhawks, and maybe the other's too.


	These Jayhawks are from the 1960 annual. They weren't signed, but Terry Stanley was the Art Editor.


	These Jayhawks are in the 1961 Annual. Bobby Overman was pictured as doing the artwork.


These Jayhawks were in the 1962 annual. They were unsigned. I was told by Julie Rainwater Shirey, the editor of the 1957/58 annual, that these were copied from the 1958 annual and changed a little bit.

This Jayhawk was in the 1963 annual.

		This Jayhawk was scanned from the 1964 annual. It was on the cover. It 'closely resembles' the Jayhawk in the 1963 annual.
		This Jayhawk was on the floor of the Gymnasium.

This Jayhawk was in the El Nido section of the 1966 Annual. The art editor was Vicki Smith.

This Jayhawk was on the cover of the 1969 annual.

		This Jayhawk on a shield was scanned from the 1970 annual.
		This Jayhawk is on the El Nido staff page in the 1970 annual.

This Jayhawk was on the cheerleader megaphones in the 1971 annual.

This Jayhawk on a shield was in the 1972 annual.

This Hawk was on the cover of the 1974 annual. It was drawn by Anthony Green. 1974 was the year that Howard County Junior College was renamed Howard College at Big Spring. The school mascot was also changed from a Jayhawk to a real live Hawk.

This Hawk was on the cover of the 1976 annual.

This Hawk was on the cover of the 1977 annual.

This Hawk is from the cheerleader page of the 1989 annual.

		This Hawk is from the 1990 annual.
		This Hawk is from the 1990 athletic media guide. It was part of an advertisement for the boys and girls basketball camps.

This Hawk, from the 1992 annual, was on a wall at the San Angelo Campus.

This Hawk was scanned from a flier for "Pack the House" Night against South Plains Monday, Feb. 22, 1993.

It was also used in an advertisement for Kidder's Kamp of Champs in 1993.


		These Hawks were in the 1995 Athletics Media Guide.

This Hawk is from the 1995 Annual Report.

		This Jayhawk was used on a 1996 t-shirt to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Howard College. It closely resembles the Jayhawk from the 1954 annual.
		This Hawk is from the same t-shirt.

This Hawk is from the 1997 Hawk Review.

		This Hawk is from a t-shirt, but I don't know what year it was used.
		This silhouetted hawks head is from a t-shirt and it is also painted on the side of a building near Jack Barber Field.
