This is a note emailed to H.C. from Cassandra Myers, Archie Myer's wife. Just a short note to thank you for such a nice article on my husband. Archie and I both attended Howard in the 70's. My son, Archie II just happened to find this website today and emailed a copy to me. Archie is still coaching on the high school level and we both still enjoy the game. We have two children Archie II and Chasity. Archie II graduated from Texas Tech and is employed in the technology field, and my daughter Chasity, graduated from The George Washington University in D.C. and is employed in the securities industry. I have to tell you as students, we moaned and groaned about being in Big Spring, thinking there had to be some place better for us to be. However, over the years, we've come to realize that our Howard College experience was wonderful. We had memorable times at Howard and made life long friendships. With that in mind, I want you to know that we will always be Howard College Jayhawks! I emailed her back to ask her if it was alright to post her email on this page and she said it was and added this next part... Yes, you have my permission to place my email on site. My maiden name was Cavil. We are still in contact with many classmates from Howard and I passed the site information along to them. It was also wonderful looking at team pictures during the time we attended and even checking out prior years. I hope you are able to keep the site online for as long as possible. My children (although we told them about their father's career) enjoy visiting the site themselves. By the way, we are grandparents. Our daughter has a son who is 19 months old and I must tell you, he is going to be a big boy (smile) and he loves the basketball. His name is Caleb Thomas Crawley and he lives in Baltimore. Yes, I tried to make him a Texan, but his father's heart is in Maryland. Hopefully one day, they will reside in Texas. Thank you the opportunity to recall the good times at Howard and the many faces of friends we've forgotten. Cassandra R. Myers This is a note from one of Archie Myer's ex players, Eloy Gomez. I stumbled across your article and wanted to say that Archie Meyers Sr. was my coach in High School and his son Archie Meyers Jr. was my teammate, he was a scholar on and off the court. Looking back today some 12 years later I never realized how much of an impact he had on me in my life in and away from basketball. Needless to say he took our Basketball program at Keller High School in Northeast Fort Worth, Texas from a broken program to the 2nd round Playoffs in his first year coaching. He taught us all a thing or two about discipline and I think we were all better men after having spent a year with him. Even today I can still hear his voice whenever I am playing street ball, "Do somethin!" We thought he was country, lol, but he was a great coach. Eloy Gomez Dallas, TX I emailed him back for permission to include his remarks here and got this reply... Yes that would be fine, I have lately been working out getting back in shape and was wondering what he had been up to. So I put his name in google and found your site, we always heard of the legend of Archie Meyers but til now didn't realize what a good player he had actually been, it was an honor to have played under him. Regards Eloy Gomez |
