
Howard College officials have announced that Head Men's Basketball Coach Mark Adams will now take over the reigns of Athletic Director in addition to his coaching duties. Adams replaces Jim Lewis who recently resigned the position to pursue other interests.Coach Adams, a Brownfield, Texas native, began his coaching career as an assistant under former head coach Harold Wilder in 1979. "Howard College has a long history of successful athletic programs. In my new role as Athletic Director I look forward to working with all of the coaches to continue this success." Adams was an assistant coach at Howard College from 1979-1981. In addition to his basketball duties Mark also served as Assistant Dean of Students and was a Recruiter for Howard College. His career has taken him to head coaching positions at Clarendon College, Wayland Baptist University, West Texas State University and the University of Texas Pan American. Adams was in coaching until 1997. He soon became General Manager of the Amarillo Rattlers Hockey Club - now the Amarillo Gorillas. Adams left after 1998 to become owner and general manager of the Lubbock Cotton Kings Hockey Club. In total, Adams has 18 years on the professional level, 16 years as head coach and a record of 298-188 (.613). "I've known Mark since he first worked here," said Sparks. "I noticed from the very beginning that Mark has a strong work ethic and strives to make a difference in whatever he is involved in. He believes in young people and wants them to accomplish their goals. A highlight, on his resume, is Adams' graduation rate of 81 percent." |
