College Prep for Technical Careers!

How can a high school student earn college credits before graduating from high school?

College Tech Prep and Statewide Articulation programs provide college credits for your enhanced high school courses.  Ask your counselor if your high school offers College Tech Prep and/or SWAP courses

College Tech Prep is a way to start a college technical major in high school. Tech Prep plays an integral part in guiding students from high school vocational and technical courses into the two-year programs included in the Workforce Education Division at Howard College.

Statewide Articulation is another way students can earn college credit while in high school. Students who take content-enhanced, articulated career and technology courses for high school credit may also be eligible for college credit at community and technical colleges statewide.  When preparing your high school graduation plan, you may select articulated courses that apply toward college certificates and/or degrees after enrollment in a related college technical program at Howard College.  High school juniors or seniors who earn a grade of 3.0 (B) or better may count SWAP courses as advanced measures for the (DAP) Distinguished Achievement graduation plan.

To receive college credit for high school courses, either an articulation agreement must exist between Howard College  and the student's high school or the course must be part of the Statewide Articulation Program (SWAP).  Certain requirements must be met before credit can be awarded.  Currently, Howard College has articulation agreements with the following high schools:

Big Spring Coahoma
Forsan Ft. Stockton
Garden City Grandfalls
Lamesa Loraine
Monahans Rankin
San Saba Sands
Stanton Sterling City
Westbrook

You must complete an application for admission to Howard College, file a degree plan, and complete the College Tech Prep form.  To begin your college career and have your tech prep and/or SWAP college credits included on your transcript, contact:
