ENGL 1301 Composition I Three semester hours (3-0)
Principles and techniques of written, expository, and persuasive composition; analysis of literary, expository and persuasive texts; and critical thinking. Designed to improve reading skills through the use of thought-provoking material on which to base training in expository writing. Study of grammar and sentence structure will be integrated with the student's needs as reading and writing skills improve. Outside reading devoted chiefly to nonfiction, especially material in which general information is stressed. Prerequisite: Pass the reading and writing sections of the TASP or alternative test. Principles and techniques of written, expository, and persuasive composition; analysis of literary, expository and persuasive texts; and critical thinking. Includes analysis of prose readings, expository writing and investigative methods of research. Readings will include the main literary types.
