Sexual Harassment & Sexual Violence Policy

The Howard County Junior College District seeks to maintain an educational and working environment for its students, faculty, and staff that is free from any form of discrimination or harassment including but not limited to sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexual misconduct, interpersonal violence (including domestic violence and dating violence) and stalking. In accordance with federal and state law, the college prohibits all forms of discrimination and harassment.

Individuals who alone, or in concert with others, participate or attempt to participate in prohibited conduct described in this policy are subject to disciplinary action by the college, notwithstanding any action that may or may not be taken by civil or criminal authorities.

The college encourages affected individuals to promptly report incidents of sex and/or gender discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexual misconduct, interpersonal violence, and stalking. The college also encourages individuals who may have witnessed instances of prohibited conduct to report such information.

This policy applies to all college students and employees, visitors, applicants for admission to or employment with the college, as well as college affiliates and others conducting business on campus.

In addition to incidents that occur on the college campus, the college may take disciplinary action in response to incidents that take place during official functions of the college or functions sponsored by student organizations, or incidents that have a substantial connection to the interests of the college regardless of the location in which the incident(s) occur.
