Mariah's Thoughts on SWCID
I personally selected SWCID because I know it is where I can get the best education. I also came to play basketball.
Why General Studies?
General Studies is my major and I will go to another college someday to major in Psychology for my Bachelor’s degree. I am selecting Psychology because I love working with people and like to help them make them make the best decisions in their lives. I am also a great listener and some people call me a leader.
Future Plans and Goals?
After I get my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, I hope to go for my Master’s degree and work as a Social Worker to help young adults with their problems or decision-making.
Patti Canne, my Head Coach is my favorite instructor. She taught me a lot about everything from A to Z, not only in Basketball but in everyday life. She taught me to look at the world from different perspectives.

Advice to Other Students
I would encourage them to go to the Tutoring Center where there are a number of staff members who can help them with their homework problems or weaknesses in their courses. I also encourage them to use better time management t for homework and social time.
Most valuable learning experience at SWCID?
The most valuable learning experience in life was about my mom who went through a difficult time and she taught me not to be like her when I graduate from school. No one in my family ever attended a college in the past and I am the only one attending college. I have a younger sister who looks up at me and I want to be a good role model for her. What I saw earlier in my life, I don’t want this to happen to me.
Where do you relax and have fun
I go to Midland to relax and have fun with my friends. I also socialize with my friends on weekends.
What I like most about SWCID
It is all about Basketball where I can release my stress and enjoy playing basketball with my teammates.
What I tell future SWCID students
I would share my positive experiences about my education and basketball. I have shared this many times with future students that the environment in Big Spring is great for focusing and that education comes first and basketball comes second. They need to know what majors are offered here at SWCID. If there is one they like, they can come here.
