Carissa's Thoughts on SWCID

For me, SWCID was the best choice because of reasonable tuition and easier communication with my professors instead of a third party (Interpreter) which helped improve my grades.

Why General Studies?
I chose my major as a general studies. I am considering changing my major so I can pursue a Bachelor of Science after taking diverse classes. I love science and know that this is where its leads me.

Future Plans and Goals?
My goals is to study diagnostic medical sonographer for Bachelor of Science, I hope to continue to take classes to help me specialize in my field.

Favorite Professor
In my experience with all my instructors.  I do not have a favorite instructor/professor because all of them were great.

My Clubs / Organizations

Advice to Other Students
It is very important to take good notes and highlight the important information on the notes. If you have to work hard in order to do well you are much like to enjoy working hard. If students having a difficulties with certain subject there is always you can find help from classmates, professors or going to tutoring.

Most valuable learning experience at SWCID?
At my various placements, I had the freedom to make mistakes, try a new strategy and continue learning about myself. I have to say being a young mother and never giving up on something that we have never tried is worth something in life and experience things. I have 2 wonderful kids and they are very motivating me to succeed. I always wanted them to have a better life; my hope is to achieve accomplishments from college so my kids could be proud of me, and so if I can do this, you/they can do that too.

Where do you relax and have fun
I am always with my husband and with kids. I can attend to a class and learn new technique tips, and technology to help improve myself and my skills. Otherwise, I am enjoying watching movies, hiking, working out, gardening, and work on scrapbooking.

What I like most about SWCID
The opportunities that I set through different ways of communicating with everyone on the compass I think it is diverse and also has an engaging spirit that brings everyone peace of mind. It’s not the halls or the walls it the staffs, instructors, students and families a SWCID better.

What I tell future SWCID students
It is a community college for the Deaf that enables for students to pursuing virtually any field to become enriched in their studies as well to enjoy their time. SWCID provides unique learning setting with a tight knit community and small facility for student ratio; all of our professors provide office hours and never hesitate to help out student who having a problems in studying.
